A MODEL FOR SUCCESS IN RURAL INDIA

2020

Shortly after the devastating Christmas Tsunami that swept across the Indian Ocean in 2004, a dilapidated, unaccredited school in rural India with only 143 students had been condemned, and was on the verge of being closed. Through the efforts of the administration and faculty of St. Hilda's & St. Hugh's New York, and later, the non-profit organization ARISE, a new school was built to house the displaced Indian students. Today, CSI St. Hilda's & St. Hugh's Chengalpattu is a leading center for quality education in the area, providing classes for over 1000 students from pre-school to 12th grade.

This film is a celebration of the school's ever-growing successes, which are owed to the strong leadership of the Head of School,
Mrs. Nishkala Johnson, her devoted family and staff, and the generosity of caring strangers 8,384 miles away.
